A 21-year-old Toronto man is facing 10 firearms-related charges after police arrested him following a pursuit near Finch and Driftwood on July 15.
Investigators say two men were walking in the Driftwood Avenue and Finch Avenue West area around 9:30 p.m. when they spotted a police vehicle and attempted to flee. Members of the Major Crimes Unit chased them and observed one of the men throw away a firearm.
Shevontae Stewart-Wilson was arrested. During the pursuit and arrest, two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police recovered a loaded firearm and an extended magazine from Stewart-Wilson, along with another loaded extended magazine in a satchel he was carrying.
Stewart-Wilson is facing unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, among other charges. Police have not released a description of the second suspect and are asking the public for information.
