Toronto police arrested an 18-year-old driver and three 16-year-old youths after discovering a loaded firearm and break-and-enter tools in a vehicle during a traffic stop early Monday morning near Jane and Finch.
Kwabena Ameyaw, 18, was driving a vehicle stopped by police for a Highway Traffic Act violation at Finch Avenue West and Yorkgate Boulevard when officers conducted an investigation and allegedly found the weapons and tools inside. Following the discovery, Ameyaw was charged with possessing a break-in instrument, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possessing a firearm without a licence, possessing a loaded regulated firearm, careless driving, and driving with no valid license.
Three youths, each 16 years old, were also arrested at the scene and charged with possessing a break-in instrument, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possessing a firearm without a licence, and possessing a loaded regulated firearm. The charges against all four have not been tested in court.
This incident continues a pattern of gun seizures in the area. As HighOnCity reported in June 2026, a teen was shot near Jane and Finch with non-life-threatening injuries, and in the same month schools in the neighbourhood entered lockdown after reports of a gun in the area.
