12-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder of Toronto Officer

A 12-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly struck a Toronto police officer while driving a stolen car in East York on June 15. Two other boys, aged 12 and 14, were also charged.
Police say officers tried to stop the stolen vehicle near Donlands Avenue and O'Connor Drive at around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday after receiving an alert about the theft. The driver struck an officer; police then fired their weapon. The driver fled and was arrested a short distance away.
The officer was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Beyond attempted murder, the 12-year-old faces charges including motor vehicle theft, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a peace officer, and leaving an accident scene. He was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
The second 12-year-old is charged with motor vehicle theft and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The 14-year-old faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Both are scheduled to appear in court July 15.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is investigating the police conduct in the incident, including the discharge of the firearm.
