GO Train Service Down This Weekend for Construction
Lakeshore West and Barrie GO lines will be out of service during planned upgrades, affecting summer concert season kickoff.
GO Transit passengers on two major routes are in for disruption this weekend as planned construction temporarily shuts down service on the Lakeshore West and Barrie GO lines.
The timing is particularly inconvenient: the closures coincide with the first weekend of Bruno Mars concerts at Rogers Stadium and Doors Open Toronto, one of the city's biggest annual events. Metrolinx said service will run only between Niagara Falls and Aldershot, with shuttle buses providing connections to Bramalea GO, where passengers can transfer to the Kitchener GO line to reach Union Station.
The work is part of the broader GO Expansion program and focuses on Long Branch GO and the Burloak Drive underpass, efforts aimed at modernizing and improving the network's capacity. While the weekend timing is unfortunate, these infrastructure upgrades are essential for the system's long-term reliability, especially as transit demand continues to grow across the region.
