A Lakeshore West GO Train stalled as it approached Union Station on September 30, trapping passengers for up to two hours in a near-full train despite the Truth and Reconciliation Day holiday.

Metrolinx said an equipment issue caused the delay. Another train was dispatched to ferry stranded passengers to the station, arriving safely, though the wait frustrated riders who said they received minimal information about how long they would be stuck.

Passenger AJ, who boarded at Appleby Station at 9:19 a.m. for a scheduled 10:15 a.m. arrival, described the experience: "We reached outside Union, then we were stranded and they said there was some equipment issue and eventually they said that another train will come that will take us to Union." AJ said the intercom messages offering vague reassurances compounded the frustration. "This is a two-hour plus delay. The least they should have done is told us that this will take this much amount of time. Every ten or fifteen minutes they said, 'It will get better shortly.' Two hours is not shortly."

Other commuters reported similar troubles. Phil Acto posted that he was stuck on track near Spadina for 1.5 hours and said a similar incident occurred on another GO line the day before. Asim tweeted that sitting outside Union Station for 1.5 hours waiting for the rescue train was unacceptable service.

Metrolinx characterized the incident as "an isolated incident with minimal impacts to trips on Lakeshore West and East lines." The source did not say whether passengers received compensation or alternative transportation options.
