Hamilton police are searching for the driver of a maroon pickup truck towing a boat trailer after an 8-year-old girl was struck and seriously injured while riding her scooter in Stoney Creek on Monday evening.

The collision happened around 7:30 p.m. on May 18 in the area of Barton Street and McNeilly Road, where officers responded to reports of a child hit by a vehicle. The girl was riding her scooter along Barton Street when the truck struck her and continued without stopping—a classic hit-and-run that's left her seriously injured and investigators scrambling for leads.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage from the area at that time to contact them. The vehicle description—maroon colour, pickup truck, boat trailer—is specific enough to narrow the search, but the driver remains at large.

This is the kind of call every parent dreads: a child struck in their own neighborhood, the vehicle disappearing. If you were in the area or saw something, Hamilton Police Service is asking you to come forward.
