A provincial staffer who abruptly ended an on-air interview with Ontario Emergency Preparedness Minister Jill Dunlop appears to have been let go.
The incident occurred on a reporter Happens last week when an unidentified handler said "Let's just wrap it up now" shortly after co-host Nil Köksal mentioned criticism of Dunlop's communications with Indigenous communities during northern Ontario wildfires. When Köksal asked why the minister would not answer constituent questions, the handler responded "She has. Thank you for your cooperation. Bye Bye" before disconnecting.
According to the Trillium, the person overseeing the interview has been let go. Premier Doug Ford's director of media relations, Hannah Jensen, informed the outlet that Dunlop will use "temporary press secretary coverage" from the attorney general's office. The outlet also reported that Dunlop's press secretary is no longer named in the province's online employee directory.
Jensen declined to answer questions about the staffer, saying her office cannot comment on human resources matters.
