Montreal man pleads guilty to manslaughter in 2024 Lansdowne Avenue shooting

A 20-year-old Montreal man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 18-year-old Issaïh Jünger, who was shot twice on a porch near Lansdowne Avenue and Bloor Street W. on February 6, 2024.

According to an agreed statement of facts filed this week in Ontario Superior Court, Jünger was shot following a dispute over stolen property. Jünger had compelled his girlfriend at the time to steal items from the accused man's Montreal condo, including a diamond pendant, handgun and a Rolex watch. The accused, his ex-girlfriend and four other men drove from Montreal to confront Jünger, who was staying at an Airbnb in the city's west end. Their stated intention was to recover the stolen items "using violence if necessary."

During a physical confrontation, Jünger was shot. The agreed facts state the accused participated in the physical confrontation but did not shoot Jünger. Three people have been charged in connection with the death. Two were sentenced earlier this year and received four and five-and-a-half-year sentences respectively in Toronto. One person remains outstanding, according to the agreed statement of facts.

The identity of the person who actually fired the shots has not been disclosed. The charges have not been tested in court.
