Last Call Pushed to 4 a.m. for World Cup Summer

Ontario bars and restaurants will serve alcohol until 4 a.m. during FIFA World Cup matches this June and July.

Ontario just gave the city a golden ticket to extend its nightlife through the World Cup. From June 11 to July 19, licensed bars and restaurants can serve alcohol until 4 a.m.—two hours past the regular last call—while Toronto hosts six matches between June 12 and July 2.

The provincial government framed the move as economic stimulus: longer hours mean more revenue for hospitality venues, more jobs, and more energy around the tournament. Most Toronto matches kick off at 7 p.m. ET, but some later games across North America start at midnight, so the extended service window gives fans a legitimate reason to linger.

The LCBO is also extending hours at 27 stores across the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa, opening Monday to Saturday until 11 p.m. and Sunday until 8 p.m. This isn't the first time the province has bent alcohol rules for a major event—they did the same during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, when early morning matches meant early opening times instead. This is a different kind of party, and Toronto's bars are ready for it.
