An entire TTC line was taken out of service during Tuesday morning's rush hour, marking the first significant disruption since Line 5 Eglinton opened to the public in February — a debut that came after more than a decade of delays and cost overruns.
Service halted along a large portion of the line just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, resuming briefly before the entire line was shut down by 7:45 a.m. The TTC cited a signal problem as the reason for the closure.
Shuttle buses were deployed to operate between Mount Dennis and Kennedy stations. Regular service resumed just after 8:15 a.m.
The outage drew immediate frustration from riders who have endured years of delays related to the Eglinton Crosstown project. The timing is particularly awkward as the TTC has spent recent months rushing through a repair backlog ahead of FIFA World Cup games in Toronto. While many visitors have been impressed by Toronto's transit network, Tuesday's disruption offers a reminder of the challenges the system faces.
