The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Sergei Bobrovsky to a three-year, $21-million contract, bringing the veteran goaltender to the team ahead of next season. Bobrovsky, 37, is a two-time Vezina Trophy winner and two-time Stanley Cup champion who spent the past seven seasons with the Florida Panthers.
The Russian netminder is leaving Florida after a disappointing 2025-26 season in which he posted a .877 save percentage—his lowest mark during his time with the Panthers. Despite the down year, Bobrovsky arrives as an experienced presence for a Leafs team looking to bolster its position in goal after trading Joseph Woll to the Philadelphia Flyers earlier in the off-season.
General manager John Chayka's signing is a high-stakes gamble. Bobrovsky will be 40 years old when the contract expires, raising questions about whether he can sustain elite performance through his early forties. If he rebounds, he could provide the stability the team seeks. If he declines further, the deal could become a long-term anchor on the franchise's salary cap.
