Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer moved into 10th place all-time in strikeouts on Saturday night, passing Hall of Famer Walter Johnson with his 3,516th career strikeout.
Scherzer struck out Kyle Schwarber leading off the sixth inning in the Blue Jays' 7-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. He is now second only to Justin Verlander (3,554) among active pitchers in career strikeouts.
Scherzer cruised through five scoreless innings, scattering just three hits and retiring nine consecutive batters before giving up back-to-back home runs to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper that tied the game at 2 and ended his night. He allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
