Ontario is giving bars and restaurants a late-night reprieve during the FIFA World Cup, extending alcohol service from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. for the duration of the tournament.

The temporary measure will run from June 11 through July 19, 2026, allowing licensed venues across the province to stay open longer during prime World Cup viewing hours. The province says the extended hours are designed to support local businesses, boost tourism, and amplify the festive atmosphere as Toronto and Canada host matches on the international stage.

Select LCBO locations across the GTA and Ottawa will also have extended hours during the same period, making it easier for fans to stock up before or after watching games at bars and patios.

Toronto residents and visitors have welcomed the move, viewing it as a chance to extend the party and maximize the economic benefit of hosting World Cup events. For bar owners, the additional two hours per night represents meaningful revenue opportunity during what's expected to be a busy summer season.

The city's nightlife scene is already buzzing with anticipation, and the extended hours add fuel to what promises to be a celebratory month and a half. Whether you're catching Brazil vs. France at 2 a.m. or nursing a final drink as dawn breaks, Ontario's making sure the World Cup atmosphere won't be cut short by a clock.
