A 39-year-old man from Pickering is facing charges including impaired operation causing death in a collision that killed one person and seriously injured three others in Scarborough on May 21.
William Howard Garrett was arrested Tuesday in connection with the crash at Sheppard Avenue East and Vandorf Street, around 10 p.m. According to police, a 2012 silver Nissan Altima travelling northbound on Sheppard Avenue East just north of Vandorf Street crossed the centre line and struck a 2015 white Volkswagen Jetta head-on. The Nissan's driver, a male, suffered life-threatening injuries. The Jetta's driver, a 32-year-old woman, and passenger, a 49-year-old man, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 42-year-old male passenger in the Nissan died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Garrett is charged with operation of a conveyance causing death while impaired to any degree, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, and two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm. The charges have not been tested in court. Garrett is scheduled to appear in court on October 29.
