A 17-year-old from Waterloo has been arrested and charged in connection with shootings at two synagogues in Toronto and Vaughan that occurred in early March, York Regional Police announced Friday.

The teen faces two counts each of reckless discharge of a firearm, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and weapons trafficking. Police apprehended him with assistance from Waterloo Regional Police.

On March 6, gunshots were fired near Clark Avenue West and York Hill Boulevard in Vaughan, damaging the front doors of Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto synagogue. Two people inside were not injured.

The following day, just after midnight, shots were fired at Shaarei Shomayim synagogue near Bathurst Street and Glencairn Avenue in Toronto. The front entrance was damaged by gunfire, but no one was inside at the time. No injuries were reported in either incident.

This is the second charge in the case. Police arrested and charged an 18-year-old man earlier this month in connection with the same incidents. The investigation remains ongoing.
