An 18-year-old Toronto man has been charged with shooting at the U.S. consulate at 360 University Ave. on March 10.
Sheldon Tracy-Stewart was arrested Thursday and charged with 11 offences, including discharging a firearm at the consulate and committing a violent attack on official premises likely to endanger the Consul General's life or liberty. No one was injured in the shooting, though the RCMP called it a "national security incident" at the time.
Other charges include theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, escape from lawful custody, defacing a firearm's serial number, failure to appear, and four counts related to illegal firearms possession.
The arrest comes the same day Toronto police officer Const. Marc Pinizzotto, 43, was killed during a search warrant execution in connection with shootings across the city, including the consulate attack. Nicholas Bennett, 19, of Toronto, is charged with Pinizzotto's first-degree murder.
According to the court document, Tracy-Stewart lives on Martha Eaton Way, the same residential area where police were conducting the warrant that resulted in Pinizzotto's death.
