Three members of Peel Regional Police have been disciplined and denied promotions after sharing or receiving confidential information related to the force's promotional process, Peel police said.

Peel Regional Police communications advisor Matt Carty said police acted on a complaint that "the integrity of the process was compromised by a few participants." The investigation found no evidence that a superintendent or senior officer improperly disclosed the information.

The incident was assessed under the Community Safety and Policing Act and handled through internal disciplinary action. The case did not require a hearing, Carty said.

"Peel Regional Police takes its promotional process with the utmost seriousness," Carty said in a statement. "We learned, we investigated and we acted."

According to a secondary source, the findings came from a professional standards investigation triggered during the force's largest-ever promotional round — a process that elevated 82 officers to new ranks. The complaint alleged potential cheating involving candidates seeking Staff Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, and Sergeant positions.

The officers involved were removed from consideration for promotion and issued undisclosed internal discipline. The misconduct did not meet the threshold for a public disciplinary hearing, meaning specific penalties will not be disclosed.

Peel police have reviewed the process and added "additional safeguards to help protect the integrity of future promotional processes," Carty said.
