Toronto escaped a brutal heat wave Monday, with temperatures dropping back into the mid-20s and an end to the extreme heat warning that gripped the city over the Canada Day weekend.

After several days of temperatures climbing into the 30s and humidex values reaching the 40s — including a record 36°C at Toronto Pearson on July 4 — a cooler pattern has settled over the city. Expect mainly cloudy skies Monday with a high of 26°C and a low of 17°C. A humidex will make it feel like 32°C, so sunscreen remains essential with a UV index of 8 or very high.

The week ahead brings a mix of sun and cloud. Tuesday climbs to 26°C with a low of 18°C. Wednesday reaches 29°C, with lows around 19°C. Thursday brings clouds with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 29°C. Friday finishes the work week with a mix of sun and cloud, 30 per cent chance of showers, and a high of 27°C.

While extreme temperatures have eased, Toronto Public Health reminds residents to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the warmest parts of the day — especially when humidex values remain elevated. The cooler forecast comes after one of Toronto's hottest stretches of the summer, prompting the city to activate additional cooling centres, water stations, and heat relief measures.
