Toronto man convicted of producing neo-Nazi propaganda videos has bail revoked

Kristoffer Nippak, 33, of Toronto, had his bail revoked Monday after being convicted September 9 of producing recruitment and propaganda videos for Atomwaffen Division, a now-disbanded international neo-Nazi group designated as a terrorist entity in Canada.

Nippak produced two recruitment videos that promoted violence against minorities. He was arrested in December 2023 and had been on strict house arrest with a GPS ankle bracelet as a bail condition.

Justice Maureen Forestell issued the bail revocation decision in Toronto courtroom Monday. "I conclude that public confidence in the administration of justice would be undermined if Mr. Nippak were allowed to remain on release in the community after his conviction for this offence," Justice Forestell said.

The justice described the offence as "extremely serious" and said it strikes at the fundamental security of the community. She identified the targeted victims as society as a whole, particularly non-white persons and members of the Jewish community. Justice Forestell said Nippak will likely face a "substantial" prison sentence. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month.

Nippak has no previous criminal record. His family had offered to supervise if bail continued, and he complied with bail conditions. Justice Forestell said Nippak has not shown why he should be released before sentencing.

A co-accused, Matthew Althorpe of the Niagara region, was sentenced in March to 20 years in prison after conviction on three terrorism-related offences. Both men were arrested and charged following an 18-month RCMP investigation covering central Quebec, eastern Ontario, northern Ontario, and the Niagara region.
