Toronto Police are searching for a man accused of pushing another man and making anti-immigrant remarks in what police are investigating as a hate-motivated assault.
The assault occurred on September 5 at the intersection of Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue East. The victim was draped in a Palestinian flag when the unprovoked interaction took place. The suspect fled southbound on Yonge Street after the assault.
Police describe the suspect as between 55 and 60 years old, approximately 6 feet tall with a heavy build and clean shaven. He was wearing a grey shirt with "JUST DO IT" writing, green shorts, a beige baseball hat, and grey running shoes.
The Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit is leading the investigation. If convicted, a judge would consider the hate motivation as an aggravating factor in sentencing. Images of the suspect have been released.
