Truck crashes into King Street bridge, snarling downtown streetcars

504 King line diverts after overhead power knocked out near Liberty Village. TTC warns disruption could stretch into tomorrow.

A truck crashed into a bridge near King and Atlantic in Liberty Village around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, knocking out overhead power and forcing the TTC to divert the entire 504 King streetcar line.

Streetcars are rerouting via King West, Queen West, Shaw, Strachan, and Douro, with shuttle buses filling the gap. The TTC said the bridge itself appears structurally sound, but the overhead wires sustained damage.

"Depending on the extent of the damage, this diversion could last into tomorrow," TTC spokesperson Stuart Green told CityNews. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and no injuries have been reported. Anyone relying on that stretch of King should plan for delays or switch to surface transit.
