A 74-year-old motorcyclist from Cookstown died Friday evening after losing control and striking a guard rail on Highway 407 in Vaughan near the Highway 400 northbound interchange.
Emergency services were called at approximately 7:15 p.m. to the eastbound lanes of Highway 407 near Weston Road. York Region Paramedics transported one person to a local hospital, where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead.
Ontario Provincial Police investigated the crash. The Highway 407 eastbound ramp to Highway 400 was closed during the investigation, as were two eastbound lanes of Highway 407 approaching Weston Road. All lanes were expected to reopen around midnight.
Police advised motorists to expect prolonged closures in the area. Contributing factors to the crash have not been disclosed. This is the third motorcycle fatality in the Greater Toronto Area in recent weeks, following crashes in Scarborough and Mississauga.
