A 41-year-old man has been charged after a fatal hit-and-run in Vaughan earlier this month, York police said Monday. On October 4, a 60-year-old Richmond Hill woman was struck by a driver in a vehicle travelling northbound on Pine Valley Drive from Major Mackenzie Drive. The driver fled the scene, and the woman was found dead two days after the incident.

Kamel Hazime of Vaughan was arrested on Friday and is now facing a charge of failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. However, police said the suspect vehicle has not yet been located. The vehicle was identified as a white, 2020 to 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. Police shared video of the van in the area on the day of the incident and said debris tied to the vehicle had been found at the scene.

Investigators are urging anyone with information or who may have interacted with the accused to repair a damaged van to contact police or Crime Stoppers. Police said anyone suspected of assisting to conceal, repair, or alter the vehicle may be committing a criminal offence and could face charges. "This includes anyone who performs or arranges body work, paint work or mechanical repairs intended to conceal damage caused in this collision," they said.
