Victoria Day weekend has officially arrived, and fireworks are lighting up the sky across the GTA. The long weekend, which celebrates the late Queen Victoria's birthday, is the unofficial kickoff to summer for many Torontonians, and fireworks displays are the traditional marker.

Toronto's official display is happening at Ashbridges Bay Park, a waterfront location that's been the city's go-to spot for decades. The park offers wide-open sightlines, and the crowds typically arrive early to claim spot on the grass. It's a family-friendly scene: coolers, blankets, kids running around while waiting for dark. Nearby, Mississauga and Vaughan have their own displays, and smaller municipalities across the GTA are hosting shows as well.

The timing this year coincides with the early heat wave, so the experience is different from typical May weather. Crowds will likely be larger—the combination of holiday, heat, and fireworks is a proven draw. If you're planning to go, aim to arrive well before dark. Parking fills up quickly, and the waterfront areas get congested as thousands converge in a short window.

The fireworks themselves are short—usually 15 to 20 minutes—but they're worth the wait. There's something about the combination of fireworks reflected off the water and the whole city watching the same sky that feels connected. Even if you've seen them before, there's a reason they pull crowds year after year.
