DanceHouse opens its 2026–27 season with Compagnie Catherine Gaudet's ODE, a contemporary dance work that channels industrial happiness culture into an exploration of group-think conformity and cultural collapse.
Choreographed by Gaudet, the artistic director of the Quebec-based Compagnie Catherine Gaudet, ODE is an hour-long piece that blends pop-rock concert energy with ritualistic ceremony. The work examines the personal costs of performative positivity and ultimately reveals what the company describes as a fragile blade of hope for a new path forward.
Gaudet won the Grand Prix de la danse de Montréal in 2022 and has built a reputation for distinctive choreography drawing on themes of psyche, identity, and the body. Her previous work, Les jolies choses (The Pretty Things), was presented by DanceHouse in 2024.
ODE runs October 23 and 24 at 8 p.m. at Vancouver Playhouse. Each evening includes a pre-show talk at 7:15 p.m. A post-show reception will take place in the Salon on October 23. Tickets and further information are available through DanceHouse.
