Unknown to many who pass through North Delta Recreation Centre on their way to hockey or curling, a gallery tucked inside has been giving local artists a dedicated selling space for more than 13 years.
The Watershed Artworks Society Gallery and Shop showcases work from over 30 talented artisans — pottery, glasswork, paintings, photography, textile arts, jewellery, metal sculpture, felting, woodwork, and greeting cards. A satellite display in the Gallery North hallway rotates featured artists quarterly, giving individual makers a focused spotlight.
This month's featured artists are Steve Wood and Bev Mason. Wood creates stained and leaded glass pieces — windows, doors, jewellery boxes, sculpture — using fine materials to produce one-of-a-kind works built to last generations. He takes custom commissions. Mason draws on Asian design and a lifetime of artistic exploration to create raku pottery that is both functional and decorative. Each piece is fired, transforming through heat into works with metallic lustre, iridescent effects, and distinctive crackle patterns.
The gallery is volunteer-run, and visitors can speak directly with artists working the shop. It's positioned as a one-stop for original gifts, investment pieces, or unique home accents.
The Watershed Artworks Society is located inside the North Delta Recreation Centre's Social Heart. The featured artist rotation continues year-round.
