The fifth annual Metro Vancouver Croissant Crawl returns September 25 through October 4, bringing 38 limited-edition pastry creations from bakeries and cafes across the city.
This year vendors have reimagined the croissant with inventive fillings and presentations. Daan Go Cake Lab is serving a banoffee windmill croissant—a cone-shaped pastry filled with banana mascarpone cream and caramelized banana confit, created by chef Nasser Saleh. Wren Cafe is offering a croissant bourguignon: a croissant cup cradling braised beef in red wine reduction. Nomad has topped a crispy croissant with melted cheese and pepperoni rounds for a pizza-inspired twist.
Drink pairings add another layer. Dilemma Bakehouse is pairing its creations with a salted caramel latte topped with almond cheese foam. Blue Parrot Coffee in Vancouver is serving an iced croissant matcha latte complete with a mini croissant perched on top.
A new highlight this year is the most creative croissant contest, judged by Alex Kim, chef and co-owner of Five Sails Restaurant, and Vancouver artist Carson Ting. The duo will select a standout for a croissant that truly stretched the boundaries of the pastry form.
