The City of Delta marked the start of Pride Month with a flag-raising ceremony at city hall on June 1, as council members, community partners, and local organizations gathered to celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

The Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag now flies outside city hall, symbolizing Delta's commitment to fostering a welcoming and equitable community. "Raising the Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag is a meaningful expression of our shared commitment to inclusion and dignity for everyone in our community," Mayor George Harvie said in a statement.

"Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the strength and diversity of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, while also reaffirming our responsibility to ensure Delta remains a place where everyone feels safe and respected."

Members of Delta council, the Delta Pride Society, Tsawwassen First Nation, Musqueam Indian Band, the Delta school board, Sher Pride, and city staff attended the ceremony alongside community members.

Throughout June, the city is launching additional Pride Month initiatives. The "Be a 2SLGBTQIA+ Ally" campaign returns with free ally pins available at city hall, recreation facilities, and public libraries. The campaign encourages learning, understanding, and everyday actions that support inclusion and belonging.

Rainbow banners will be displayed across Delta's key corridors throughout Pride Month, reinforcing the message that everyone is welcome and valued.

The Delta Pride Society welcomed the city's continued support: "Raising a Pride flag is a sign of solidarity, inclusion and support of our 2SLGBTQ+ community. Allyship isn't passive, but active and we encourage everyone to listen, learn and step into greater understanding and empathy for all."

A similar flag-raising took place at Delta School District headquarters on May 28, when the Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag was raised outside district offices.
