North Shore Pride Week launches Monday, July 27, with flag raisings across all three North Shore municipalities, followed by a full week of celebrations through August 3.
The North Shore Pride Alliance, themed "freedom to be," is bringing back fan favourites and introducing new events. Flags will raise at the District of North Vancouver's municipal hall at 8:30 a.m., West Vancouver at noon, and the City of North Vancouver at 2 p.m.
A Heated Rivalry trivia night kicks off Monday evening at 6 p.m. inside the Lonsdale Quay Foodhall, hosted by drag performers GlimmerRouge and Alter. On July 29, Parkgate Society throws its fifth annual drag dinner show at 5:30 p.m. at Parkgate Plaza, featuring barbecue-style food and performances from Adam Zapple, Homo Hardware, and Eden Essance.
Wednesday evening, July 30, brings drag entertainment to Cates Deck before the space transforms into a movie theatre screening Speed Racer. On July 31, the West Vancouver Memorial Library hosts Pride Bingo from noon to 2 p.m. with drag queen Carlotta Gurl. The library is also launching a free pop-up exhibition running through September 15 called Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada's LGBT Purge, originally from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, with talks scheduled throughout August.
The centrepiece is August 1: a Pride march departs Lonsdale Quay atrium at 4:30 p.m., marching to the Shipyards. Pride at the Pier begins at 5 p.m., collaborating this year with the Shipyards Night Market. Expect live music, a DJ dance party, drag performances, and vendors — activities for all ages. The celebration wraps with a drag brunch at Khaghan Restaurant near Capilano Mall on August 3 at noon, with all proceeds supporting the pride alliance's year-round work.
Gary Woods, co-founder of the North Shore Pride Alliance, said the week celebrates Vancouver's diverse community while reminding residents that pride is a year-round call for inclusion and action.
