The World Naked Bike Ride is rolling through Vancouver on Saturday, July 4, with hundreds of cyclists expected to gather at Sunset Beach at noon for body painting, followed by the ride's official start at 2 p.m.
The annual event protests car culture, oil pollution, and non-renewable energy. Social activist, writer, and filmmaker Conrad Schmidt launched the event in Vancouver in 2002, and it has grown into a worldwide protest known for celebrating creativity, individuality, and the human-powered machine.
Weather looks ideal: the forecast calls for clear skies and a high of 21°C, though the UV Index will be seven or higher, so participants should apply sunscreen generously. The ride concludes with a celebratory picnic held by the clothing-optional rights group Naked Iconoclasts Fighting The Yoke (NIFTY), and everyone is welcome to attend.
