People don't stay seated for long at a Queer As Funk show. By the time the band gets going, most of the room is already dancing—and that energy returns to the Commodore Ballroom on Friday, July 31, as part of Vancouver Pride.
Made up of eight queer musicians from Vancouver, Queer As Funk has spent more than a decade turning funk, soul, and Motown into joyous, high-energy live shows. Their sets blend classics from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin with contemporary hits reimagined through a funk lens, earning the band a loyal following and multiple sold-out shows at the Commodore, where audiences know to expect less of a stand-and-watch concert and more of a night on the dance floor.
For Vancouver Pride, the band will bring favourites like "Express Yourself," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Proud Mary," and "Shout," along with funk-inspired takes on modern hits, including songs by the late Amy Winehouse. Whether you're a longtime fan or seeing Queer As Funk for the first time, expect a room full of sing-alongs, dancing, and the kind of atmosphere that has made the band one of Vancouver's favourite live acts.
