Richmond is marking the start of summer with a full weekend of community events, from family-friendly outdoor activities to Pride celebrations.
Steveston Summer Fun launches Saturday, July 25 at Westwind Neighbourhood Park (11371 Kingfisher Drive) from 10 a.m. to noon. The free, family-friendly community program hosted by the Steveston Community Centre features outdoor sports, yard games, crafts, and live performances by local musicians. The event series will move to different parks throughout the summer.
Also opening Saturday is the Richmond Art Gallery's "Ongoing / Pacific Crossings" exhibit, running through October 4. The exhibition features artwork from 11 Japanese artists and one Canadian artist sourced through art organizations in Canada. The genesis stems from Pacific Crossings, a curatorial initiative conceived by B.C.-based curators in 2019. The gallery is located at Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate), open Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m.
The fourth annual Pride Walk takes place Saturday at Bayview Street and No. 1 Road from 11 a.m. to noon. Participants will gather at 10:30 a.m., with community booths, face painting, and photo spots throughout.
On Sunday, July 26, the City of Richmond hosts City Pride Kickoff from 2 to 5 p.m. at Minoru Centre for Active Living (7191 Granville Ave). The celebration features drag performances from Carrie Dawn, fusion dance, art activities, and information booths from community organizations. If weather calls for rain, the event moves indoors to the Minoru Centre.
Richmond's Pride Week celebrations extend through the weekend with free access to community spaces and programming throughout the city.
