Seniors Week brings 5 days of celebration and community

Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre hosts performances, info sessions, and free activities June 1–5. Pancake breakfast, lawn bowling, and more.

Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre is hosting a full week of celebration, education, and entertainment for Seniors Week, June 1 through 5. The schedule is packed with live performances, community resources, free activities, and meals.

Monday kicks off with a tap dance performance by the centre's tap dance class (9:30–10:30 a.m.), followed by info tables from the Earthwise Society, Meals Delivery, and a local pharmacist (10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.). Paint with Rita offers a guided acrylic sunset painting session (10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., $10 for members, $12 for non-members). At 11:30 a.m., BC Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt speaks about current issues for B.C. seniors, with City of Delta staff and council members present.

Tuesday features a free pancake breakfast and sausage by the North Delta Lions Club (9–11:30 a.m., three seatings at 9, 10, and 11 a.m.; tickets available at the front desk starting May 27). A Guitar Hootenanny sing-along runs 10–11:30 a.m. Info tables cover Delta Seniors Support, Fortis BC energy savings, and the Comfort Kit Campaign. Tickets for the pancake breakfast are limited and available starting May 27.

Wednesday brings a Hawaiian Dance free class (10–11:30 a.m.), a Delta Seniors Bus show-and-tell with a bus tour (10 a.m.–1 p.m.), and lawn bowling club info. The Delview Theatre Group performs at 3:30 p.m., and a Chinese Folk Dance performance takes the stage at 5 p.m.

Thursday includes Introduction to Lawn Bowling on the greens (10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) and Coffee with a Cop (11 a.m.–noon) for casual conversation with Delta police. Deltassist and Delta Police info tables run 10 a.m.–1 p.m., with a prize wheel spin available.

Friday closes the week with handmade cards for sale from Card Makers (10 a.m.–1 p.m.), Heron Hospice info on end-of-life care and grief support (10 a.m.–1 p.m.), and ICBC's Enhanced Road Assessment trivia with prizes (10 a.m.–1 p.m.).

All activities are free unless noted. The centre is welcoming and designed to bring Delta's senior community together.
