Chest Fever plays The Rickshaw on Nov. 7 with a show built around The Last Waltz, The Band's farewell concert of Nov. 25, 1976, which featured Ronnie Hawkins, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Dr. John.
The San Diego five-piece, which bills itself as The Official Revival of The Band, runs the show nearly three hours. Up to a dozen local guests are invited to sing the songs the original guests once performed. For the Vancouver date they are Daniel Moxon, Rich Hope, Gord Kushner, Marin Patenaude, Colleen Rennison, Cobra Ramone, Scott Smith and Paul Pigat, and a four-piece local horn section joins the band.
Guitarist and singer Dan (Dude) Cervantes says it is not a note-by-note copy. "It always is surprising what directions those jams can take," he said. Chest Fever has been doing the show since 2017, when it was first asked to perform The Last Waltz, and last month released a live recording of its sold-out Massey Hall recreation.
