West Vancouver's John Lawson Park will burst with national pride and soccer spirit on Wednesday, July 1, as the District hosts its annual Canada Day celebration—this year with a World Cup twist.

The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. with the Kids' Zone, featuring soccer-themed activities including crafts and a kicking challenge to align with the World Cup. At 4:30 p.m., Mayor Mark Sager, MP Patrick Weiler, and West Vancouver-Capilano MLA Lynne Block will deliver official remarks.

From 5:30 p.m. to the event's end at 9 p.m., attendees can enjoy live musical performances from Eagle Song Dancers from the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), the West Vancouver Youth Band, and the six-piece dance band Dr. Strangelove playing iconic Canadian music from the 1980s, '90s, and 2000s.

While there are no food trucks this year due to the World Cup, ice cream from Dolce Amore and Kiwanis' cotton candy and popcorn will still be available. Cultural Services Manager Christie Rosta encourages people to bring a picnic or visit local restaurants before heading to the park. "It will be an amazing day for the community to come together to celebrate Team Canada, Canadian pride, and the diversity that makes Canada the special place that it is," Rosta said.

The event at John Lawson Park has been a community fixture for roughly 14 years. Admission is free.

When: Wednesday, July 1, 4–9 p.m. Where: John Lawson Park, 17th Street, West Vancouver
