City will detail Kitsilano Pool rehab options in 2027-2030 capital plan

The City of Vancouver will develop rehabilitation options for Kitsilano Outdoor Pool as part of the 2027-2030 mid-term capital plan update to Council, the city confirmed in response to questions HighOnCity raised about the pool's future.

The options will be based on a feasibility study completed in December 2025, which examined the long-term viability of the facility. Further details about the scope and budget for each option will be provided through that capital plan update, the city said.

HighOnCity reported in August that the City of Vancouver outlined three preliminary Kitsilano Outdoor Pool renewal concepts with costs ranging from $40 million to keep the existing pool operating for another 15 years to $300 million to completely replace it.

The feasibility study examined how to address the pool's structural and mechanical deterioration while accounting for climate risks. Kitsilano Outdoor Pool, built into the intertidal zone of English Bay, sits fully within a designated floodplain and wave hazard zone. The study considered coastal engineering challenges including flooding and sea level rise alongside community priorities—which emphasized retaining long-length lap swimming, preserving the saltwater experience, and adding amenities like shade and seating.

The study also included engagement with the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, whose priorities included foreshore restoration, full archaeological assessment, cultural visibility through Indigenous languages and signage, and ongoing consultation as the project evolves.

The complete feasibility study is available on the City of Vancouver website. The city said further details will emerge when staff present the capital plan update to Council.
