Kitsilano Pool will open on June 17, after addressing years of recurring leak issues. Public swimming runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. Length swimming is available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The beloved saltwater pool's future remains uncertain. City council and the park board have identified three options following a feasibility study and public engagement that showed strong community interest in preserving the pool's length and character.
The options are: protecting the existing facility for approximately 15 years at a cost of around $40 million; renovating it for a 30-year lifespan at $90 million; or replacing it with a new facility outside the floodplain for a 75-year lifespan at $230–300 million depending on potential enhancements.
Each option involves trade-offs related to cost, longevity, climate resilience, service continuity, and alignment with broader citywide infrastructure priorities. The replacement of the pool will be considered in the city's 2027–30 Capital Plan.
