One dead in Coquitlam house fire on Roderick Avenue

Crews discovered a deceased person inside the home Tuesday morning after responding to a residential fire around 9 a.m.

One person has died following a residential fire in Coquitlam on Tuesday morning, July 7. Emergency crews were called to the 700-block of Roderick Avenue around 9 a.m. for a reported house fire.

Based on information from a witness, police determined one resident was unaccounted for. When Coquitlam Fire/Rescue Services crews entered the home, they found a person deceased inside. The victim's identity has not yet been determined.

An 18-year-old was treated at the scene, and a Coquitlam RCMP officer was transported to a local hospital after inhaling smoke. The fire investigation is ongoing, being handled jointly by Coquitlam RCMP, Coquitlam Fire/Rescue Services, and the B.C. Coroners Service. The cause remains under investigation.
