One dead, another hospitalized after early-morning house fire in Mission

One person died and another was hospitalized Friday after a house fire in Mission claimed multiple lives and several pets.
Mission Fire and Rescue Service responded to a home on Third Avenue, west of Murray Street, around 5:30 a.m. When crews arrived, heavy flames were visible at the rear of the residence and thick black smoke poured from the front door.
"At that point, firefighters were notified that not all occupants were accounted for," Deputy Chief Nick Rychkun said. Firefighters launched what the service called an aggressive interior attack, entering through the ground floor and advancing to the second floor, where the fire was heavily involved.
One other occupant was transported to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Several pets were found dead in the fire.
The cause of the fire had not yet been determined as of Friday. Fire investigators remained on scene to continue their work.
