Firefighters responded to a fire at the Haven in the Hollow homeless shelter on Logan Avenue, between Haig Street and Park Street, shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

When Mission Fire Rescue crews arrived, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the roof of the building. Firefighters immediately searched the structure and confirmed that all occupants had been fully evacuated. Crews used a ladder truck and engine to knock down the fire.

The building sustained significant damage. The timing of when residents will be able to return is unknown. Residents and staff have been relocated to a reception centre established at the Mission Leisure Centre, where multiple agencies are providing support.

BC Emergency Health Services reported no injuries and no paramedics responded to the scene.
