Fraser Health and the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation are partnering to build a new MRI unit at Delta Hospital, a project the foundation is fully funding at $18 million.
The new diagnostic imaging service is expected to support between 7,500 and 10,000 MRI exams annually, helping reduce wait times and enabling earlier diagnosis for cancer, neurological conditions, and injuries. The unit is expected to be completed in December 2028.
Health Minister Josie Osborne said the investment represents a commitment to expanding access for residents across the region. "People living in and around Delta will have peace of mind knowing they will have increased access to MRI scans, close to home."
Fraser Health president and CEO Dermot Kelly emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis. "By supporting earlier diagnosis and treatment, this investment will help improve outcomes and strengthen care closer to home."
Access to MRI services has been a long-standing need in Delta, with the community advocating for this service for many years. Lisa Hoglund, CEO of the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, said the foundation will launch its fundraising campaign this fall, inviting the community to invest in bringing diagnostic care closer to home.
