Delta has been rewarded with an additional $2.345 million in federal funding for exceeding its housing acceleration targets under the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
The funding was announced Tuesday, June 23, by the Government of Canada, building on the $14.2 million Delta received in the HAF's second round in January 2025.
Since signing its HAF agreement, Delta has leveraged the initial funding to issue nearly 1,500 building permits, including more than 500 for missing-middle housing — units like duplexes and triplexes that sit between single-family homes and large apartment buildings. The city is on pace to exceed its HAF targets.
Veterans Affairs Minister and MP for Delta Jill McKnight said the additional investment "will help Delta cut red tape and accelerate construction." Mayor George Harvie called the funding partnership "a reminder of what's possible when we support community-led solutions."
Since the HAF agreement began, Delta has implemented a development fee incentive program to encourage construction, created a comprehensive accessory dwelling unit program to increase residential density, and established partnerships with non-profit organizations to facilitate non-market housing.
The additional $2.3 million will be used to streamline development permit guidelines, increasing clarity for developers and reducing case-by-case discussions with staff. The city will also update its Streamside Protection and Enhancement Area guidelines, reducing the need for individual developers to undertake costly environmental studies.
