Ladner barn fire draws 37 Delta firefighters; cause still under investigation

Thirty-seven Delta firefighters battled a massive barn fire in Ladner on September 9, at 10:40 a.m., responding to a report of smoke coming from a barn at 4050 46A Street.
Crew arriving on scene found a large two-storey wood-frame farm structure fully involved in flames, with heavy fire through the roof and a large column of black smoke visible across the area. Fire Chief Dave Wood said: "Crews battled hard to bring the fire under control, deploying multiple attack lines and master streams to protect adjacent vehicles, equipment and neighbouring structures while working to knock down the main body of fire."
The Delta Fire Department deployed eight fire apparatus, 28 on-duty firefighters, and nine off-duty members who were called in to support the incident and maintain emergency coverage for the rest of the community. BC Ambulance stood by at the scene. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Fire investigators were on scene during the firefight but, due to the heat, could not access the site. Wood said: "A complete investigation will occur once the scene is safe to enter." Crews remained on scene through the day to deal with hotspots and monitor for rekindling.
