The Vancouver Giants are poised to announce that Michael Dyck will return to the Langley-based team in a dual role as general manager and head coach, according to unconfirmed reports.
Dyck was the Giants' head coach for five seasons between 2018 and 2023. During his first season, he led the team to overtime in Game 7 of the WHL Championship Series against Prince Albert. He's currently assistant coach with the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the 2026 American Hockey League Calder Cup Champions.
The Giants have been without a head coach or general manager since Parker Burgess and Hnat Domenichelli stepped down after the 2025–26 season. The team finished at the bottom of the WHL western conference with 25 wins in 68 games—a difficult season, according to Giants Majority Owner Ron Toigo.
Domenichelli, the fourth general manager in franchise history, was named to the job last summer on the same day Burgess became the 10th head coach. He remains with the team in a player personnel capacity.
On Monday, the team announced its preseason schedule for the 2026–27 Western Hockey League season. The Giants will begin with a pair of games in Everett on September 4 and 6 for the Silvertips preseason tournament with U.S. Division teams. They'll then host the Victoria Royals for back-to-back games on September 12 and 13, the latter taking place at Langley Events Centre at 2 p.m.
