Alex Edler returns to Canucks as player development coach, replacing Sedins' role
The longtime defenceman is back in a coaching capacity after working with prospects at development camp. Canucks still searching for AHL head coach.

Alex Edler, the longest-tenured defenceman in Vancouver Canucks history, is returning to the organization in a player development role.
Edler worked as an on-ice coach at the Canucks' development camp in Abbotsford earlier this summer, and general manager Ryan Johnson praised his hands-on approach and the feedback from that experience. "His past experience in the NHL will really help in our players' development," Johnson said. "He understands the demands of what it takes to be a good pro both on and off the ice, while his skill set and communication will be a big plus when it comes to coaching and mentoring our prospects."
Edler is now replacing the Sedins' role in player development. According to the Canucks website and Elite Prospects' staff listings, Henrik and Daniel Sedin were the only two people listed as full-time Player Development coaches.
Jason Krog, who previously worked as a skills and skating coach, has been promoted to assistant coach on head coach Manny Malhotra's staff. The Canucks are still searching for an AHL head coach after coming close to hiring Memorial Cup-winning coach Jussi Ahokas of the Kitchener Rangers—Ahokas turned down the offer.
