Ocean Wise brings Wonderful Whales educational tour to 19 Fraser Valley libraries through August 7

Ocean Wise's Wonderful Whales mobile education tour is visiting 19 branches of the Fraser Valley Regional Library from now through August 7, offering free programs for all ages focused on whales, ocean health, and Pacific Coast marine life.
Each stop opens with a 20-minute interactive presentation exploring why whales are critical to ocean health, their deep cultural significance to Indigenous nations across Canada, and everyday threats they face—including noise pollution, overfishing, and vessel strikes. Families then move to hands-on Marine Mammals and Pacific Northwest artifact stations, where Ocean Wise educators help them explore real ocean-inspired artifacts and answer questions about connections between whales, marine life, and healthy ecosystems.
"Hands-on learning is one of the most powerful ways to build a connection to the ocean," said Samantha Guerard Dimitraki, Manager of Education at Ocean Wise. "When a child gets to hold a real whalebone or ask an educator a question, ocean conservation stops being an abstract idea and becomes something they want to be part of. Programs like this allow us to build a future where more people are ready to take action for a healthy and flourishing ocean."
No registration is required, and admission is free. The tour is sponsored by the Fraser Valley Regional Library. Full schedule and details are available on Ocean Wise's website.
July stops include Abbotsford Community Library (July 27, 10 a.m.), Aldergrove Library (July 27, 2 p.m.), Pitt Meadows Public Library (July 28, 10 a.m.), Maple Ridge Public Library (July 28, 2 p.m.), White Rock Library (July 29, 11 a.m.), Port Coquitlam's Terry Fox Library (July 29, 2:30 p.m.), Mission Library (July 30, 10 a.m.), and Clearbrook Library (July 30, 2 p.m.). August stops continue through August 7 across Langley, Chilliwack, Fort Langley, and Hope.
