A fatal motor vehicle incident closed Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge early Sunday morning, with investigators saying there is no indication of criminal activity.
The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Lougheed Highway and 287 Street, between 287 Street and Hayward Street in Mission. Westbound traffic remained closed until 4:35 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses reported the incident involved a motorcycle and a truck. One person said on the RCMP Facebook page: "There was nothing left of the bike. [The rider] either lost his helmet or wasn't wearing one. The truck tail bed was thrown down the street and all the airbags were deployed. It was a horrible thing to witness."
Staff Sgt. Marcel Pinto said in the early stages of the investigation there was "no criminality at this point." The scene was cleared by morning with no ongoing risk to the public.
