Teen seriously injured in e-scooter crash with car in Maple Ridge
A 13-year-old wearing a helmet was taken to hospital with serious injuries when a parked car pulled into traffic.

A 13-year-old riding an e-scooter was seriously injured Monday in a collision with a car in Maple Ridge, adding to a growing surge in traffic incidents involving youth across Metro Vancouver.
Maple Ridge RCMP responded at about 5 p.m. to a motor-vehicle collision near 232nd Street and 124th Avenue. Officers found the teen suffering serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The youth was wearing a helmet at the time.
Police say the teen was riding an e-scooter northbound when it struck a grey Audi sedan parked along 232nd Street. The driver was attempting to pull into traffic. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.
According to Trauma Services B.C., there has been a "clear upward trend in e-scooter-related injuries among children and youth," with the number of severe cases rising from fewer than five in 2021 to 10 in 2024. Just two weeks ago, a 12-year-old was injured in a similar crash in North Vancouver.
To legally ride an electric kick scooter in B.C., riders must be at least 16 years old. Parents are not allowed to let children under that age use the scooters. Anyone with information about Monday's collision is asked to contact Maple Ridge RCMP at 604-463-6251.
