Grouse Mountain's newest attraction opens this week: the Grouse Gravity Coaster, a gravity-fed ride that sends cyclists weaving down the mountainside at controlled speeds before emerging to sweeping views of Vancouver, the ocean, and surrounding peaks.
Unlike traditional amusement rides, riders control their own speed, making the experience accessible to families, first-timers, and adrenaline-seekers alike. The coaster winds through towering trees and alpine terrain with signature features named "The Nose Dive," "The Tailspin," and "The Chimney" — designed to deliver moments of excitement while showcasing the natural landscape.
Riders can go solo or ride with a passenger. Minimum age is three years old; children under nine must ride with someone older than 16. A single coaster ride costs $29, with a second ride for $13. Adding a passenger runs $12 for one ride or $15 for two. Annual Pass+ holders purchased after April 26 receive one complimentary ride.
The coaster reflects Grouse Mountain's evolution into a year-round destination. This opens alongside the newly expanded Grouse Bike Park and comes as the resort celebrates its 100-year anniversary. While skiing and snowboarding remain central to Grouse's identity, the addition signals the mountain's commitment to four-season offerings.
Safety is built into the ride experience. Advanced anti-collision technology and modern safety systems keep riders safely spaced throughout the course. The defining moment, though, is the mountain reveal — riders descend through forested terrain before emerging to Vancouver spread out below, creating a distinctly West Coast experience that blends thrill with scenery. For locals seeking adventure without leaving the city, it's a natural draw.
