North Vancouver teen Casey Trotter stars in Disney's Camp Rock 3 filmed in Metro Vancouver

Casey Trotter, a 15-year-old from Lynn Valley in North Vancouver, is making his feature film debut in Disney's Camp Rock 3, which aired August 13, on Disney Channel and will debut on Disney+ August 14.

Trotter plays Cliff, a drummer who competes against other young musicians to be the opening act for Connect 3's (the Jonas Brothers) reunion tour. As friendships form and romances develop, the stakes rise as competitors face the choice between stardom and other life priorities.

"He brings a lot of comedy to it, but at the same time he has an emotional side and that's something that you'll get to see when you watch the movie," Trotter said of his character.

The North Shore resident describes himself as a triple threat performer — musician, dancer and actor. He got his start at Deep Cove Music Studio and trained at Vancouver acting schools including Arts Umbrella. In 2024, he made his theatre debut as Freddie Hamilton, the drummer, in Theatre Under the Stars' production of School of Rock: The Musical. He has also appeared in Nickelodeon's The Thundermans and as a background actor in Hallmark's Sugarplummed.

Trotter was backpacking in Scotland when he heard about Camp Rock 3 auditions. He immediately booked a flight to Los Angeles, watching the original Camp Rock films to prepare. When he landed the role, he called his best friend to celebrate.

Camp Rock 3 was filmed in Metro Vancouver, with Barnet Marine Park serving as a key location. Trotter said he's thrilled to show his local roots on screen.

"It's so cool because Vancouver, it's a versatile city," Trotter said. "You go to the North Shore and you get mountains and skiing. You go to the city, you get a kind of New York vibe. It's my home."

He credits his mountain upbringing — his father works for North Shore Rescue — and said he's been skiing since he could walk, spending time at Grouse Mountain.

Trotter is also part of a new Mickey Mouse Club revival currently filming its pilot in Los Angeles. The original Mickey Mouse Club ran intermittently from 1955 to 1996, launching stars including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling.
